Dolce and Gabbana takeover Harrods for Christmas

Iconic fashion house Dolce and Gabbana has taken over the festive window displays this year at London’s historic Harrods department store for an Italian themed spectacle.

Inspired by Sicilian puppetry and marionettes the displays capture attention though subtle movement and theatrical themes. As can be expected with the well known Knightsbridge store the attention to detail and luxury feel is ever present (forgive the pun) but with a comedic twist. Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce are represented through playful dynamic puppets featured in workshops, on dancefloors and even in space.

Designed by Dolce and Gabbana themselves each window tells a story with different themes and there is a sense of discovery watching the moving puppets while also seeking out products hidden among the merry festive bling.

Traditional Christmas themes are prominently displayed alongside martians and space suits as the design duo travel through the windows.

The playful puppets and twinkling Christmas lights provide a sense of humour and dynamic element that many competitors are lacking. As with the bombardment of Christmas advertising, it’s easy to become blind to the festive noise and sparkly displays. Luxury or not, the more is more attitude can be seen the full length of London’s busiest streets so the puppetry and additional story-telling at Harrods made us pause and take notice.
