Savvas Alexander Launches Fashion Collection with Sustainability at its Heart
Back in autumn 2020, A1 Retail Magazine published the final piece of a 6-article series authored by Emma Carter of Phoenix Wharf. Called ‘Liquid Retail’, the series examined the fluid and chameleon-like approach retailers needed to adopt in order to meet our constantly-changing purchasing environment.
‘Sustainable Strategies’ was the final focus of the series and the article ended on an upbeat note, looking to the future via the instinctively sustainable outlook of a new upcoming generation, including Royal College of Art Fashion Masters student Savvas Alexander. We’re now delighted to hear that Savvas has not only completed his studies but has launched his first capsule collection, staying both independent and true to his original ethos and aims.
Each item in the collection is made to order, meaning zero wasted stock. The garments have no zips or hems, featuring sealed edge fabrics and minimal fastenings (if any). This means the clothes have a great end of life scenario, given that part of the great problem with textile recycling is unpicking threads and zips. Where possible, the collection – including dresses, coats, tops and bags – is also made from reclaimed or recycled fabrics. At the same time, there’s nothing ‘worthy’ about these clothes. The super-contemporary collection features laser-cut details and Japanese-inspired drapes and folds. It’s also very inclusive, with sizing and cuts that suit all ages, sizes and genders.
We wish Savvas all the best with his new capsule collection! www.savvasalexander.com
